Ouch! Hitting a corner or edge, with your head, arm or shoulder is at least, a painful annoyance and at worst, may result in a more serious injury!

Considering the fact that hand injuries account for a significant amount of workplace injuries, identifying the right chemical glove for the right application is not always the easiest task.

DayLight Saving Time Starts March 11th, 2012

It's that time again to change your clocks but also to change your batteries. Don't forget your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors too!

Snow shoveling has become an unavoidable task for Canadians, whether you are doing it at home or at the workplace. Today’s busy economy demands that commercial and industrial entryways are kept clean and clear of snow and ice in order to maintain a safe and inviting entrance. Although we do not have any control over the weather as Mother Nature takes her turn, we can avoid injuries and risk to our employees, guests and customers by ensuring that they are safe when entering and leaving our buildings. Ice and snow accumulation can cause a hazardous entryway, causing unnecessary slips, trips and falls.

At our recent Customer Appreciation Day at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, customers were introduced to a whole new world of LED technology and flashlights. LEDs provide a number of significant advantages:

The introduction of the CSA standard Z462-08 in 2008 brought workplace electrical safety to the attention of employers across Canada.  As our provincial governments continue to take a closer look at this standard, and the issue at hand, the importance of an electrical safety program continues to grow.  Now, in just the first few weeks of the new year, CSA has issued standard Z462-12; this is a revised version that includes more guidance on integrating electrical safety programs, implementing best safety practices, and demonstrating due diligence.

At our Customer Appreciation Day at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on January 12th many employers in the GTA were able to meet with Salisbury by Honeywell, our new supplier of electrical safety equipment.  It was a great opportunity to discuss their electrical safety needs, and benefit from the extensive knowledge and experience the Salisbury team brings to the table.  In the ever-changing world that is industrial safety today, it’s more important than ever to have reliable and knowledgeable partners who can guide us and our customers to a safer, better work environment.

YES – WINTER is officially here as we scrape ice off our cars and shovel snow and just like winter happens every year so does the FLU SEASON.

Flame resistant clothing is truly making it’s mark on industrial safety. Who knew that such a simple piece of personal protective equipment (after all, what could be simpler than clothing? We wear it every day!), could develop into a sophisticated combination of materials and manufacturing processes that would offer so many options?

Where years ago only a few choices in FR fabric existed, now there are many choices.  To make the right choice, there are many factors you should consider: do you need inherently flame resistant fabric, or a treated fabric? How much energy (calories) do you need the clothing to protect you from? Do you need 100% cotton, or would a blended fibre work better for you? Or even better yet, Nomex? Do you need a higher quality garment that will withstand abrasion and tough working conditions? Or do you work in a dirty, oily environment where you would prefer to dispose of and replace old garments on a more regular basis?

At our Customer Appreciation Day at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on January 12th we introduced Bulwark FR.  They are a global leader in the FR industry, and will help meet our customers growing needs and give them guidance in choosing the best possible garment to suit their application. In a personal protection category that is growing and changing as much as this one, it’s near to impossible for safety officers and program managers to stay current. The best thing you can do for your employees and their safety is to know your needs, and work with the experts to find the protection that is right for you.

How do we reduce the overall cost of ownership and  increase productivity through maximizing glove performance? How do we ensure employee safety by ultimately reducing hand injuries and injury costs?
